Porn Websites Traffic Drop During Ramadan
Ramadan is a sacred time for Muslims all around the world. It is a month-long celebration of feasting, spiritual reflection, devotion, and self-improvement. This is also a time for family, and many Muslims enjoy getting together with their extended and immediate family most night. The night is when Muslims are finally allowed to break their fast and eat.
But why Ramadan is happening all around the world, something else is happening. On porn websites all over the internet, there is a significant drop in traffic from many Middle Eastern countries. These two incidences are related. So, today we'll talk about why there is always a drop in traffic on pornography sites around the world during Ramadan.
What do Muslims do during Ramadan?
Above, we said that Ramadan is a time of self-reflection and self-improvement. Muslims are to abstain from any vices that they shouldn't be doing, and they know the activities are not approved by the Koran. If they drink alcohol, they are no longer allowed to drink alcohol during this time. If they gamble, then they are no longer allowed to gamble as they are celebrating Ramadan. Abstaining from their vices and bad habits will help Muslims reflect upon their life and see if they are truly in need of that habit or if it is in their life because they are just so used to it that they don't know how to stop doing it.
While sexual encounters between a married couple are not prohibited during Ramadan, the married couple must wait until nighttime falls. Having sex during the day is haram. All other sexual vices that are not approved by the Koran must stop. This means that if Muslims are participating in premarital sex, they are no longer allowed to do so. The Koran strictly states that sexual encounters are for married couples only so they're not allowed to do it anyway, but Ramadan is a special time where you must lock your bad habits down, or you will not be celebrating Ramadan the correct way.
This also means mean all sexual vices must be abstained from, not just premarital sex. So, if you masturbate, you must stop or resist as much as you can during Ramadan. The rules of Ramadan also apply to all people if they watch pornography. Watching pornography is not approved of in the Quran.
Why does porn site traffic drop around Ramadan?
So for one month all over the world, Muslims who watch pornography for the rest of the year must abstain from watching any type of pornography during the month of Ramadan. This is why most porn sites experience a drop in traffic. Muslims around the world are trying to uphold the rules of Ramadan and be good Muslims, at least during this time, so this means they will have to stop watching pornography or resist as much as they can.
How much of a drop does the word porn experience?
So now that we have established why there is a drop in traffic on porn sites, let's find out how much of a drop there is in traffic by looking up google search trends.
We're going to sort the traffic drops by country, and we're also going to be comparing Google search data from the last 90 days. Ramadan started on April 23rd, 2020, and as you probably guessed, that day was the last day of regular porn viewing habits for most of the Islamic world. By April 25th, there were significant drops in the search term porn across the middle east.
Google gives a number to represent the interest of the search term. 100 is the highest a search term could reach, and 0 is the lowest
If you look at the worldwide trends, there doesn't seem to be a significant drop in the search term porn. It is only when you examine the Middle Eastern countries individually do you see the actual drop.
- In Iran, on April 23rd, the search interest for the term porn was at 95, and by April 25th, it dropped to 69.
- In Afghanistan on April 23rd, the search interest for porn was at 74, but by April 25th, it was at 19.

- In Syria on April 22nd, the search interest for porn was at 100, and by the 24th, it was at 37. However, it's already back at 87 on May 3rd.
For all countries except Turkey, there was a significant drop in search interest for porn, but there is has been an extremely slow uprise for the porn as the last two weeks past. None of the countries are back to their regular habits, and it may not return until Ramadan is over on May 23rd.
Conclusion
Although this may sound strange, sometimes it's nice to take a break from porn every once in a while. You can give your mind some time to rest from watching graphic images. Many people, when they have taken a break from porn and then come back to it, they can no longer watch the videos they used to watch from before their break because it is too graphic. And it truly shows the power and dedication that Muslims have to their festive holidays. 1.1 billion Muslims all over the world joining hands, feasting together at night, reflecting upon their lives, and aiming for self-improvement is the type of cooperation that we need in the world now more than ever.
